160 Years of Nagel Open AIR Party
Sixpack Provides the Mood
SÜDLOHN As the sun sets in the west on Saturday night, the musicians of the rhythm and blues band Sixpack from Rhede shine in the shadows of Südlohn’s St. Vitus Church. The guitars were tuned on stage, the church square visibly filled with guests and the Wiegbold Open Air Party in the heart of Südlohn was ready to begin. Not only was an excellent happy hour promised for the anniversary celebration of the Hotel Nagel, but an event with happy music as well. “Good evening, Südlohn”, Lothar Mittag, the band's singer, greeted the audience and got right down to business.
Dieter Hackel and Klaus Rühling sang expressively to the powerful sound of their guitars together with their front man Lothar, performing rock, pop, beat and blues hits, reinforced by Jörg Vogelsang on the bass, Manfred Platzköster on the drums and Gregor Hünting on the keyboard. The keyboardist describes Sixpack as a harmonic group that enjoys making music together, which was plain to see. They awakened nostalgic feelings for the sixties, seventies and eighties amongst the party guests in Südlohn. Catchy tunes included the Beatles song “Eight Days a Week”, Pink Floyd’s protest song “Another Brick in the Wall” and “Angel” by Robbie Williams. German rock was also wonderfully performed, like the song “Freiheit” by Marius Müller Westernhagen. Sixpack was fully in their element with “Brown Sugar” by the Rolling Stones. The party guests swung along to the well-known pop songs “Josephine”, “Wonderful Tonight” and “Let it Be”. All in all, the kick-off to the Wiegbold party enjoyed a rocking, jazzy atmosphere. The audience voiced their thanks in joyous applause.
